EE Times Names SPI "Start-up of the Year" Finalist for the Prestigious ACE Award
Company introduced world’s highest-performing DSP, the Storm-1 SP16HP, allowing customers to slash costs and accelerate time to market SUNNYVALE, Calif. – March 13, 2008 – Stream Processors Inc. (SPI), a fabless semiconductor company focused on simplifying parallel processing, is a finalist for “Start-up of the Year” in EE Times’ Fourth Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) awards. The magazine’s award recognizes the electronic industry’s creators of technology who demonstrate cutting-edge breakthroughs, innovation and leadership. SPI recently introduced the Storm-1 family, the industry’s highest performing and most cost-effective line of digital signal processors (DSPs). Based on the groundbreaking Stream Processor™ Architecture, full C-programmability allows manufacturers to eliminate dependencies on special-purpose point solutions and adopt an efficient software-driven model that promotes innovation and faster time to market. The award recognizes venture-backed or pre-IPO electronics companies demonstrating excellence in business development and technology development processes that could help them become market leaders in the global electronics industry. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges consisting of leaders from academia, industry and Wall Street. The award is expected to be announced on April 15. Recognized for its leadership in DSP performance and easy to use software development tools, the company has secured a string of design wins in embedded markets that require the flexibility of software and high compute headroom, such as video surveillance, printing and broadcasting. “EE Times is one of the electronic industry’s leading forums on innovation and business leadership,” said Chip Stearns, CEO and president of SPI. “It’s an honor to be considered finalist in the ACE awards and it reflects all of the hard work and ingenuity from our team. We are committed to further innovations in our Storm-1 family to enable our customers to bring differentiated products to market.” SPI’s most substantial technical innovation is the Stream Processor™ Architecture that allows Storm-1 SP16HP to deliver 224 GMACS at record-setting power-efficiency of 0.04 mW per MMAC. This level of performance level allows for processing, such as High Definition H.264 encode and the emerging H.264 (Scalable Video Codec), to be economically and easily implemented in software without the need for function-specific hardware acceleration. Storm-1 family consists of four models; from the low-power SP8LP to the high-performance SP16HP, with volume pricing at $20 per unit for SP8LP-G30. About EE Times ACE Awards The EE Times ACE Awards honor the innovators who create embedded technology and demonstrate leadership in the global industry. Winners will be honored at the ACE Awards Gala taking place on April 15 from at 6 p.m. at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, Calif.
