SAN JOSE, Calif. – October 14, 2008 – Stream Processors Inc. (SPI), a fabless semiconductor company focused on making parallel processing simple, today announced the availability of a DVR Reference Design Kit (RDK) from partner Magellan Discovery. The RDK, called Peacock, is a standards-based Linux design using a single Storm-1 G160 stream processor supporting 8 video channels with H.264, MPEG-4 and MJPEG codecs. The Storm-1 platform is fully software programmable in C to eliminate the limitations of traditional hardwired ASIC chips and provide customers with the flexibilty to add features, and transition to new standards while minimizing obsolete inventory.

The RDK comes with schematics, layout, BOM list, reference hardware, application software incl. codecs and multi-media framework, and a standards-based Linux BSP for vendor customization.

Peacock is based on a single Storm-1 G160 stream processor and supports 8 channels (240 fps) of video with simultaneous H.264, MPEG-4 and MJPEG compression with preview, record and playback. The video quality and compression ratio is enhanced by 3D noise filtering and deinterlacing. Video monitor output supports tiled preview and playback with on-screen GUI. 8 channels of G.711/726 audio input is also supported.

Other I/O includes Ethernet, 2xUSB, 2xSATA HDD, PCI slot, RTC, JTAG, audio output, and RS-232 ports. The board measures 200x170 mm (7 7/8" x 6 11/16").
